Saturday night the Steele Subaru Major Midgets played host to the defending National Champion Cape Breton West Islanders at the Sportsplex and skated away with a hard fought 3-1 victory.
Both teams would have 8 shots in the first but it was the Steele Subaru who would carry a 1-0 lead into the intermission thanks to Isaac Chapman with an unassisted marker at 18:27.
The Islanders would outshoot the Subaru 12-8 and Islander Stephen Fox would pick up the only goal of the second at 10:18 sending the two teams to their rooms tied at ones after two.
Issac Chapman would pick up his second goal of the game and eventual game winner at 11:07 of the third from Wilson and Spears. With the Islanders pressing for the equalizer David Gagnon would add an insurance marker into an empty net at 1:41 with a little help from King and Quillan.
Stewart Bagnell was solid in goal turning aside 32 of the 33 Islander shots he faced earning the win while Ewan MacDonald would turn aside 27 of 29 in a losing effort.
Next up for the Subaru is a Sunday matinee at the Sportsplex as they host the Valley Wildcats at 1:15. Hope to see you there!
